I did my 1st SAT in Janurary and recieved an 11 essay, yet my June essay score is 6! I'm sure that I neither went off topic nor plagiarized. Should I ask for a score verification? Does it help?
Btw, someone said that during every test, TCB puts some of the essay scores to 6 randomly... Does anyone know anything about it? Thx a lot

Hmm, that sounds a little odd. From an 11 to a 6? I doubt that happened. I would have it checked, but that just my two cents. And I never heard about the “6 randomly” thing.

You could have it checked, but 9 times out of 10 it will come back the same score.

I also have never heard of a “6 randomly” thing. I don’t think College Board would do that, since it would have quite a few complaints on its hands.

Will verification help? Or they always come back the same score?

Me too! Exactly the same thing.
I got a 8 on the first essay last June (1.5 pages), 11 this Janurary(2 pages), 6 this time(2 pages)!
Do you know where we may get essay score verifications? Thanks for your help!

BTW, I did not plagarize, or offtopic, for certain.
The only “abnormal” thing I did that I can think of was that I used one example instead of two.

Can’t you view your essay online?

Essay is not available until June 26th.
Although I did not agree with “6 randomly” thing, yet I find my 6 far too weird.

Mines not available yet either but I have a feeling mine got messed up because I was expecting much higher on writing

@lwxted
U only used 1 example and u wrote 2 pages?! OMG
To verify ur score, enter ur score report& click “Score Verification”
Does it really help?

If I were you, I’d wait until you get your score report and look over your essay so you have solid proof that your essay was not a six, then when they acknowledge their stupidity, you demand some compensation.

I did good in MC and did Essay really good expect one stupid mistake. I wrote nice examples, but I didnt have enough space, so I wrote conclusion in 4th para. instead of seperate para. I had strong feeling that may affect my Essay, but I was expecting atleast 10.

I was expecting good score in writing but got only 680. I was not able to view my essay score. It says to wait till Jan 26th.

I was thinkging to contact Collegeboard regarding this, But I didnt see my Essay score yet.

I’m with u.
Do u really think TCB would “acknowledge their stupidity”

To be honest they probably wouldn’t, but I think that if they did eff up your score, you deserve compensation. That is your FUTURE that they are messing with. That is one of the main reasons I hate TCB - they have a choke hold on your life and they don’t seem to care enough to at least make sure your getting enough oxygen.

@JTO925
Absolutely!
I’m gonna retake the October SAT anyway and the person who told me about the “6 randomly” thing also reassured me that everything’s gonna be okay after such bad luck…

Any idea, why only some people are not able to view their Essay scores?

@Goodluck13
no idea, it never occured to me

@Goodluck13

To view your essay score follow these steps:
- Go to the home page of the sat section of collegeboard
- Log in
- On the left side under “Homepage” click “Scores”
- Next to June 2nd it should say “View and send scores”
- Click that and you should see it

I’ll wait until June 26th to view my essay scanned by the CB.
If the scanning is somehow intelligible, I will apply for score verification.
If not, I’d rather believe it’s my own problem and will not apply for rescore.

I found this info on college board site. If they are not ready to re-read, what is the point of re-verification of essay?

If a student requests to have an essay score verified, this means:

We investigate if an error was made in the scanning or processing of the essay scores assigned by essay readers.
The verification of essay scores does not include rereading the essay or an appeal of the essay score.
The score verification fee is not refunded for essays written in pen.
If we determine that irregularity occurred in the scanning or processing of the student’s essay score, the score may change. In this circumstance, the students’:
Adjusted score is automatically reported
Score verification fee is refunded
