Should I visit a school I probably can't afford?

If it’s off the table cost-wise, spend the time instead at the school you plan to attend.

If you can meet another prospective at the school you will attend who you think would make a good roommate, then you’ll be way ahead of the game next year, IMO. Same applies to picking which dorm to live in, clubs to join, details about course selection, becoming familiar with the campus, etc.
