Hello. I have not received any response from all the engineering firms I applied to for an internship. Should I visit a firm after applying to them and talk to them for an interview ? I am only considering this because that was how I got my first retail job.
Don’t get me wrong, I would act sincerely upon meeting HR, not entitled .
I would be wary about coming across as pushy. Can’t you just send a polite email asking for an update on the application?
What kind of companies did you apply to? What year in college are you?
If it is a large company, then they would probably be looking at rising seniors only. Also going to see a large company in person probably won’t help. You would probably get to see someone in HR, at best. The HR person wouldn’t be making the decision as to who to hire and getting to see the manager who would make that decision would be almost impossible.
If it is a small company you are talking about, then you might get some attention by going to see them. It probably couldn’t hurt. Except that if you are talking about this summer, then it is probably too late.
I would follow up with a phone call or an email asking if the application was received and it there’s anything you can add or provide to show your qualifications. Showing up in person without an appointment is likely to get you red-flagged as someone who doesn’t understand or follow business protocol.
Currently , I am a rising senior , and these internships are for the fall
I suppose calling them and/or emailing them would be worth a try . What should I say to them?
Essentially be polite, enthusiatic and succinct. Like
Hello SoandSo in HR,
My name is PianoWarrior and I applied for an internship with X company on this date. I wanted to make sure that my application was received okay by X company. I hope you don’t mind me following up - I am so excited about this opportunity because (good reason) and I don’t want to miss out. Please let me know if there’s anything missing from my file or if you would like to see anything further from me to support my application.
Thank you!
