I was accepted to Michigan a long time ago and it has always been one of me top choices, but I have never visited it. It says on the official Michigan website that Tuesday is the last day (until after I need to make a deposit) that you can take a look at the dorms and sit in on a class. I was going to go this upcoming weekend, but I would not be able to see the dorms and whatnot. I could theoretically miss school and go tonight, but I have a big soccer game on Tuesday that I don't want to risk missing.

Do most people from out-of state actaully visit Michigan before making the deposit? I just want to know if its necessary. Meaning, I have a pretty good idea of what it is like just from browsing this website. I don't need to go to an info session because I already got in and I know all about the academic program and somewhat about the social life, and I know that Ann Arbor is a great college town. I also know that it gets very cold up there...

What do you guys think? Should I visit before Tuesday, or should I just wait until the weekend? Or should I just not visit at all? I am from NJ so traveling would be expensive...

unless you’re seriously considering another college , you don’t need to waste the money coming in from out-of-state. besides it’s not cold anymore here so you wouldn’t get a feel for the weather anyway

I visited last week. It was freezing on Thursday and the campus looked dead. There were snow flurries on Friday and the campus looked a bit more lively. It seems to me it’s hard to get a feel for Mich from a visit unless someone shows you around. I still loved the college despite the bleak weather and relatively quiet sprawl.

I was there on Friday, too. It did get cold, though I saw no snow flurries. My D said the weather had been beautiful before that and I believe her since the spring flowers are in full bloom. (By the way, Ann Arbor has to be one of the prettiest places I have ever seen in the spring…rows and rows of blooming trees and flowers.)

If you can visit, do so…especially if you are uncertain of your choices. If U Mich is your top choice and based on your research you are comfortable making your decision, then I doubt you’ll be disappointed when you get there.

And yes, students are studying for exams now. Many are leaving as soon as they are done, so don’t expect the campus to be as lively as it will be in the fall.
