Should I wait another year?

Hi, I have been accepted to UIUC engineering as transfer for the upcoming year. I know UIUC engineering is top-notch. However, the school itself is not. I did not apply to any college ranked higher, because I knew my HS record was too low to qualify (2.9GPA) and one semester was not enough to cover it up. My SAT was 1360 out of 1600.

In college, I maintained 4.0 for the first year(33 hours) at an okay 4yrs university. I believe I can maintain a gpa above 3.9 for the upcoming semester as well.
Keeping that in mind, do you think I would have a chance at UCLA, WashU, Cornell, Northwestern, Notre Dame, or Rice?

I know those schools will still look at my HS record. But if I still have a chance, I want to try them out. I reasoned myself that I can always re-apply to UIUC next year, and if I don't get into anywhere else, I will hopefully still get into UIUC.

Thanks

UCLA does not look at HS records if you transfer in as a junior.

The problem is that you are transferring in engineering.

At many universities, the engineering sequence is tightly organized. Entering as a junior without the precise pre-requisites out of the way will mean extra time (and extra tuition dollars) spent at the new university. Unless you like the idea of spending a total of six years to complete what could be a four year degree, my advice would be to choose between your current university, and transferring to UIUC for the fall. Save the dreamier places for graduate school.
