Should I wait til i get to Cornell to get my supplies?

for pens, pencils, notebooks, etc, should i wait til I get to the Cornell bookstore to make these purchases? I'm just scared they're going to overcharge me for everything since once I get there, they are pretty much my only option for school supplies.

yes cornell store is super expensive.

i would take advantage of sales at the big box stores.

i would say that you need pen and paper for notes (or laptop). some professors will ban laptops in their lecture (so be prepared to write).

if you have a class with a lab you might need a lab book (so there might still be things you wouldnt know ahead of time).

definitely buy printer and printer paper and usb cord before you get here. newegg has some mad printer deals in august (sign up for their email newsletter for the best deals)

Waiting might be a good idea if you are from far away and need to pack lightly. Cornell will overcharge, but as a freshman you will have a free bus pass, which means easy access to the mall. Alternatively, you could order from an online retailer and have them ship to your campus address.

there’s a staples in Ithaca…

speaking of campus address. Does anyone know where I would find what my Ds campus mailing address will be if she lives in Balch?

Do you know her room number? Typically the format is:

Cornell University
ROOM# SOMETHING Hall
Ithaca, NY 14853

Usafa2011dad, here is address an address paradigm:

Daughter Usafa2011dad
Cornell University
axyz Balch Hall
Ithaca, NY 14853

thanks that seems just too easy.

Is that address good for both US Postal service and other carriers like UPS & Fedex? I know sometimes there are different addresses?

Also, where will she be picking up her mail? Will it be somewhere in Balch, or is it at RPCC? I seem to recall seeing a mail room at RPCC during Cornell Days. Just wasn’t sure if it was for all freshman or just certain dorms or what?

If your daughter is living in Balch, she will pick up her mail at the Appel Mail Center. The address goes for all sorts of mail. For whatever mail does not fit in her box, your D will receive a slip an pick it up at the main desk. Simple as that.

To OP: If you gets stuff shipped make sure it doesn’t arrive before move-in day. I sem to recall that that was against the rules.

You should wait to get here if you need to pack light, because there’s Walmart and Target here. HOWEVER, during Move-In day/Orientation week, things sell out like crazy because other people will be thinking to buy school supplies up here as well. So if you expect to come early on move-in day, say in the a.m. then wait. But if you’re coming later, you might want to at least get some things where you are. You can also ship things to your campus address if you know it already.

May I suggest using the Bed Bath and Beyond Pack-n-Ship option. Go to your local BB&B and ask about it.

I’m flying into Rochester on Wednesday, and then we’ll be going to Ithaca that evening. We plan to get what we can in Rochester, but Ithaca won’t be cleaned out by Thursday, since move-in is on Friday right?

dont forget that we have other colleges in the area as well…

Wells College
Ithaca College
TC3

high schools too

And therefore middle schools and elementary schools.

Depends on what you mean by supplies. If you’re referring to dorm stuff like comforter, blanket, etc., def buy those beforehand. You can ship it to your dorm and the front office of your hall will hold onto it.

As for school-stuff, I literally only get one of those 3 spiral notebooks for 3 bucks deals, and a pack of pens…and then not use those because I type everything on my laptop.

As well as day cares…
