Should I wait to pick colleges to send my ACT and SAT scores to?

According to the ACT exam sign up, I can’t change the colleges I would like to send my scores to after a certain period of time before the actual test, am I still able to choose whether or not to send my ACT and SAT scores off if I get a great score or not? Or will I have the choice of whether or not to send them off if I get a bad score if I choose which colleges to send them off to before I’ve taken the actual test? because the first four colleges to send my scores off to are free…

With both ACT and SAT, you have until a certain date to designate colleges in your test application to receive scores automatically when released; four of those colleges are free sends. If you do not change the chosen colleges by the that last date for making changes, your scores will be sent to those colleges when released and you cannot stop that from happening. Moreover, if you do not name any colleges by the desiganted date, you lose your free sends. For either test, you can always wait until after scores come out to order them sent to colleges but if you do that it costs an extra fee per college.

I recommend that you wait until you have the score and then decide which test score to send where. The savings from free send are very small in the grand scheme of college applications.
