Hi
I just applied to Michigan State and got accepted. I am not applying anywhere else and I know that Michigan State is the best school for me. I was wondering if, by committing now, would it be harder to get scholarships?
Any help is much appreciated!

If you can afford all of Mich State’s costs, then you don’t need to apply anywhere else. If your attendance is dependent on scholarships or financial aid, then you need to apply to more schools.

What are your stats? What is your SAT breakdown? What is your GPA?

Are you an instate student?

I’m out of state,
GPA: 3.2
ACT: 28
I’m an out of state student and I can’t get any need based scholarships.

I hate to sort of hop on this thread, but I’m in sort of a similar situation. I just got accepted to MSU as well, but I’m in-state. Stats are like 3.6 GPA, 26 ACT, hopefully gonna retake. Thanks for the help

So??? What are you saying? Are you saying that your parents will pay the full OOS costs for MSU? (About $35k per year)

If not, then you need to apply to other schools…otherwise you’ll end up without an affordable school.

So, what’s your financial situation???

My question doesn’t hinder on my financial situation (because I already said I cannot get need base aid), the question is simply would it be harder to get non-need based aid if I commit now? Or does anyone know how scholarships work at MSU?

Sorry about not being straightforward!
Thanks!

You might try posting on the MSU forum. There are some frequent posters there who can perhaps answer your question.

Here’s the link, also, to the MSU scholarship pages. Some do not require supplemental info and some do.

As far as I know no schools will change your merit based scholarships if you apply early. It would definitely affect the school’s yield when it became known.

I assume you don’t need to give MSU an answer until May 1? If so, and if you would like to look at financial options, apply to at least one other college that has good merit financial aid. You can see merit and need financial aid averages for each college on the [College Admissions - SAT - University & College Search Tool](http://www.collegeboard.com) site. After the application deadlines of January 1 or so, that option will close.
