Should I waste my Time and Money to apply to Stanford or Carnigie Mellon

<p>I am not as brilliant like many people claim they are here but I would like to go to a good college for computer science.I have considered applying to Stanford and Carnigie Mellon but really should I even try?I am a white lower middle class male with few scholarships opportunities.I have 3.84 gpa,1680 sat and last years ACT was 24.Math is my best other than writing.Top 1 % in the US for writing.660 sat math,28 act math.Eagle scout,varsity and club soccer.AP cal,english,history,physics.National honor society.Very outdoors type.Have taken a very special selective science class that I will not name here.</p>

<p>It never hurts to try! We can talk about the numbers game, but let’s face it, the numbers often lie. There are so many other factors in college admissions. Even if you think you have no shot, an adcom might think differently. Go for it!</p>

<p>As another has said, it doesn’t hurt to try. But your chances are low. Unless if you are able to write a spectacular essay and have stellar recommendations, both would be high matches.</p>

<p>I don’t think you should considering you can’t even spell the name of the school.</p>

<p>Actually I cannot spell worth a crop but I can fix every computer system in my school.I have learned me teachers how to run themm and they even brought me special software so AS to learn it.They evn put let me desing websites for the the us government but sombody has to corect my speling.</p>

<p>You should definitely apply, and focus your essay on your love for computers, etc. Get your teachers to write about how good you are at ICT in their recommendations and you’ll have given yourself the best possible chance.</p>

<p>Thansk for your help and advice.I have fixed my spelling problems by staying after school.So maybe now I can have a better CHANCE.I did get some good advice here that was very helpful.</p>

<p>I don’t think you should spend on time on any of the aforementioned. The 1680 SAT makes these competitive universities way out of your league. </p>

<p>You can try CMU, but don’t even waste your time with Stanford.
2400s, Valedictorians, with perfect Extracurriculars get rejected all the time.</p>
