Should I waste my time with usc?

I'm a transfer student, second year, have 58 units, Business/accounting major. I've been reading here that the financial aid is really good and that they will sometimes bend over backwards, but I still am a bit hesitant to think they would give me anything my family could afford. Annual income is about 80k a yr, and in the bay area that is just barely floating by.

If I'm going to get serious about USC, I'm going to have to fufill their different GE requirements this Spring semester, as I've already completed IGETC and Berkeley's HAAS Breadth requirements. I've already completed all of the major requirements.

Anybody have any thoughts? I think my 3.83 gpa is competitive (I'd hope), but at this point I'm just worried about the financial aid. I'd like to have a backup after HAAS (enough said). UCSB business/econ is my backup currently. I couldn't apply to ucla, no business calc accepted:( Thanks for any thoughts, I greatly appreciate it.

Why don’t you contact their finaid office and ask if they can give you an estimate of what could be expected with and AGI of $XYZ and assets of $ABC?

Your GPA is competetive for a USC transfer.

USC DOES give aid to transfers - 100% of USC-determined need. (So your EFC may be more than the FAFSA calculates, depending on home equity and other assets not included in the FAFSA calculations.) They use the FAFSA and the CSS/Profile to determine need. Stafford loans and work/study are part of the packages, the rest (after your EFC) would probably be university grants and Cal Grants (if you are eligible).

My personal experience as a student at USC is that I was very pleased with my fin aid. It was considerably more affordable than UCLA or Cal for me (California resident).

Best of luck!
