Should I write about my depression?

In eighth grade my grandmother on my dad's side was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and passed away within 2 years. During this time, my mother was also diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia during my freshman year and during my sophomore year our family was bankrupt. Then during my junior year(right now-) my grandmother on my father's side became bedridden and I am her sole caretaker struggling with depression. BUT- I am still so very thankful and healing every single day!

Before this makes anybody say, "your life sucks" I really want to highlight that although these were difficult times and sadly encompass my entire high school career, I am very thankful for everything that has happened. I don't want to write a sob story by any means but rather a hopeful and inspiring one!!

I am not sure if these topics would instantly make me in the reject pile, will they? And is there a possibility that this topic would be successful?

Thank you so so much College Confidential-ers!

I think that depends on your approach.

An essay about your life circumstances and your positive outlook and response would work. I would not focus the essay on depression.

as long as you focus on how it has affected you in a positive way I think it could be very good, but like milkweed said, I don’t think focusing on the depression aspect is a good idea
