My dad is telling me it should but I hadn't thought about it before.

My English teacher and Guidance Counselor had never pointed it out before, so I didn't think of having a title. It didn't seem necessary since i was answering a prompt.

I wouldn’t think so, for the reason you stated, that it’s a prompt. However, I don’t think they could fault you for having one. Personally, I didn’t.

How long is yours, just out of curiosity? And do you think a 5-paragraph format is the best way to go?

I don’t think it would count against you if you had a title, but then again they give you a specific prompt to answer so I think without a title would work too.

5 paragraphs works, whatever is “organic” and you think adequately paragraph wise reflects you

Good luck you guys, let’s get these essays rolling!

Any type of essay is okay, but I’ve heard that you should avoid 5 paragraph ones because college admissions tend to see them a lot and they are more “boring” than non-traditional ones. Just a thought.

Mine did. It doesn’t make or break you, but if you choose the right title you can highlight the theme of your essay and basically bring it together and make it more memorable.

And I just like the sight of a nice, bolded title at the top. It makes it look like a real, professional piece of writing.

If you put a title on, it must be exceptional, sort of a pre-hook to your essay
I agree, AVOID 5 paragraph essay, try something more of a narration that gives tone and personality to your writing, not a common “essay”

You should have an anecdotal introduction and a conclusion that ties your introduction in with your realization/“aha” moment/whatever you learned or gained. Go with your gut, your essay should be refined, but raw (if that makes any sense). [Refined in terms of grammar/syntax/sentence structure but raw in terms of emotion and passion.]

i think a title would be another way to make ur essay a little more memorable. You know, instead of talking about the essay where the guy did that and that happened, they’d have a name to refer to the essay.
