Students at LU (over 21)have asked to be allowed to drink or even attend social events off campus where liquor is served. How does it work with the tens of thousands of students enrolled in Liberty University online? Are they also prohibited from drinking a beer off-campus, say in their home? If so, can Liberty actually enforce that rule? If not, then why treat the distance and residential students differently?
Frankly, I think the drinking age should be 18 and student should be trusted to make the right decisions. But, for Liberty (and schools of a similar ilk) I would imagine that allowing a single crack in the veneer will create something of a slippery slope. So, I say no. The orginal intent for that school was a certain moral/value driven education. I think they should stick with their mission. Students know going in what the expectations are and if they feel they can’t uphold the mission then the onerous duty is on the student to transfer out.
