I’m a sophomore, and I took the old SAT in October. Is it necessary to take the new SAT? I scored a 2340, so I don’t really want to have to go through the process of preparing for a whole new test again.
Congrats on such an amazing score as a sophomore! You definitely do not need to retake the new format but a majority of other sophomores will have to.
I think that so far Northwestern is the only major school to have announced it won’t accept the old SAT for students graduating high school in '18.
besides if you got a 2340, you are probably gonna do just as well on the new sat without much prep.
You will need to take the new PSAT in Oct of your Jr year and your score from your old SAT indicates that you stand a decent chance of achieving National Merit status on the PSAT. You may want to prepare for the new PSAT and that PSAT preparation will apply for the PSAT and SAT (essay added to SAT).
I have not seen if the National Merit Scholarship folks have said if they will allow a confirming score from the old SAT for the new PSAT. They are allowing it this year as the class of 2017 was caught up in the transition year, but you will want to look into that for next year’s PSAT.
