I've always wondered if a college essay should be pretty elaborate on the topic, or just direct, short and simple. College admissions officers usually spend ~10 mins on an app, and they probably don't want to be worn out by reading a long wall of text for the prompt. I've always wondered how I could gain the favor of some guy who has to be up at 2am doing nothing but reading and analyzing if I gave him a massive essay.

Is it better if you just go under the limit and keep your essay short and sweet, or do you really want to elaborate a lot about yourself with the topic?
