<p>It is my understanding that the grade deflation does not affect the sciences and engineering, because historically these areas generally resulted in lower average GPA’s any way.</p>
<p>On a side note, for engineering grad school, MIT is generally considered to be the optimum. The Princeton and MIT engineering deparments have had close relationships for decades. Years ago our ChE professors suggested to us that Princeton ChE undergraduates could pretty much be seriously considered for MIT graduate school as long as they had just 3.0 GPA’s or above (note, the average in the department was a B- at the time).</p>
