How much do the specific subjects you choose to take for the SAT IIs matter in relation to your major? Do colleges really care, or do they just want the three SAT IIs regardless of subject? I'm planning on majoring in History/Anthropology by the way. :)

ShanFan the SAt II's are a bone of contention so to say..
Its not really clear whether the colleges want subjects reflecting ur major or just any 2 or 3 subjcts.. In a few cases they even want u to show variety and take different subject to show strengths in other fields.
For example im plannin to apply for engineering and i would like to give math 2 c,physics n chem subjects but now im reconsidering and thinking of a literature or something to show variety..

Maybe you could take a US history,World History and a math/science subject to show ur diverse/wide ranging interests or knowledge...
Best Of Luck!

Rice has said that they don't care, but I don't know if that's for all colleges.

Also. Shouldn't your field of major kind of reflect your academic strengths anyway?

If you plan on majoring in something like Math or Engineering, it would probably be wise (if not required by a college/university) to take the Math I/IIC along with a science subject test.

If you plan on majoring in Humanities, it doesn't matter so much. Colleges don't typically require certain subject tests for English majors.

If you are undecided, just take the tests you think you can succeed on.

Overall, take subject tests on subjects that interest you! The college process is about finding a good MATCH; if a college turns you down because they don't like your choice of subject tests, it probably isn't the right place for you in the first place.

A range of SAT IIs is a good idea if you are looking at a school with a more traditional, liberal arts approach. By taking tests in several different subject areas, it helps to show your talents in a wide range of things.

If you're unsure, you should take whatever you think you can do well on. I absolutely despise chemistry, but I took the SAT II on it in June and did well. Now I never have to look at it again!

If you're applying to engineering school, take as many science/math orientated SAT IIs as you can...

Liberal arts on the other hand, prefer a more diverse approach -- but they usually want math anyways (math is an essential skill in everything, lol), and maybe a science & english/history as well.
