Should we create a separate subforum or pinned thread for UAB and/or UAH?

OK, I pinned it for now.

I think you should. I see many schools in the alphabetical list that get maybe one new thread a month. UAB and UAH wouldn’t do worse. If I may make a bold suggestion, I would create a subsection for all colleges by state (and countries if there is a demand for it). That way all the schools in a state that wouldn’t merit their own forum would get a place.

@feenotype - Thanks. I get the impression that has been discussed before, and I don’t know why it wasn’t implemented. But I will pass that along that a member (no doubt many members) continue to think it would be a good idea…

Reading through this thread actually answered some lingering questions for me. Last week my DS attended a football camp at UAB. I understand that UAB is an urban campus and quite different from UA, but I made a few observations about both campuses and wondered how they were “connected.” It seems that they are not under the same “umbrella” the way the state universities in Florida are governed.

They are connected in the same way that the UCs in Calif are connected. There is a governing group (board?trustees? not sure what they are called), and Chancellor Witt is the head. Dr. Witt is the former president of Bama.

Most Alabama public univs are NOT under this governing group. For instance, Auburn, Alabama A&B, University of South Alabama, and Troy are not under this group.

I dont know how the state univs in Florida are governed. They seem to be just state schools owned by the state and all come under some governing group.

26 for UAH, when it lists GPA, anyone know if they mean unweighted? Confused because their top awards say 4.0+ and I don’t understand how unweighted can exceed 4.0

I would have assume that means weighted grading, then. Perhaps they are indicating they recalculate your grades based on their own system of weighting and what courses to include and exclude (e.g. PE).

i asked for 4 years that my son attended uab for a separate forum… the answer is that the admins have a system for calculating which schools will get their own board (once they have one even if no activity they are not removed)… it is decided by how many threads are unique to that school… (mentions of the school within other threads do not count)

scholarme - we just visited AUH 3 weeks ago, my son in OOS and asked about GPA - they said they used the highest reported by the school, which will ALWAYS be the weighted. They mainly stressed that they (UAH administration) do NOT calculate the GPA for merit scholarships - they use the GPA provided by the applicant’s HS. If uw and w are BOTH listed, they will use the numerically higher.

There is now a separate forum for U Alabama-Birmingham:

Since the new forums have been created, I am closing this thread and unpinning it.
