Should we get stats analyzed?

Hi,

My D plays girls basketball, would any parents out there pay to have their child's stats analyzed in determining efficiency and impact on the team? We recently found a pretty cool company that provides this service. They'll do a play by play stat keeping from a video of a whole game and give us detailed areas of strength and weaknesses like in these 2 games she scored the most when the scoring margin was greater than 10 points or had turnovers at crucial moments to determine patterns. I think they even analyze how many touches she got on the ball per possession. They charge $199 per game and $500 for a package of 3 games. What do you think? Worth it?

$64M question is would the college recruiting coaches find value in it?

Baseball is a very stat driven sport. None of the college coaches that recruited my son across D1 or D3 looked at his baseball game statistics including; ERA, batting avg or WHIP, etc… The only stat they looked at was MPH on a radar gun, GPA, class rank, and SAT. Everything else was the coaches watching him play with their eye balls, and making notes. Possibly, basketball is different? I dunno, but $199 per game is expensive especially if it is something you could do on your own if needed.

Personally, no, I would not pay for something like this.

My daughter plays college basketball (NAIA) and I do not think any coach would recruit based on a stats sheet. They will want to see her play. If you have $200 to spare “for fun” then go for it, but don’t expect it to do anything for her getting on a college team.

Sorry, the most important thing I failed to mention is this company tells a story behind the stats data with graphs & charts to better understand the progression over time. My D is a point guard so they will also help visualize how many dribbles she took and if that caused turnovers or assists along with their Player Impact chart. It seems college coaches are most interested in: points per game and depending on your position assists, steals, rebounds, blocks. I don’t think this is something we could do ourselves, it’s pretty data intensive and they have an algorithm. It is a bit pricey, maybe I can bargain with them…what is the least amount you’d pay per game or games?

Me personally I would not I am sure you have at this point some idea of where she wants to go/would fit in. To a point you need to trust the process and let it work itself out. Make sure she is proactive and assertive in reaching out to coaches and keeping on top of those that do communicate back. Also don’t be thwarted by lack of response, they are busy and we have been told many coaches take personal time off in Aug. after a busy and crazy June and July spent recruiting.
I think there are a ton of companies/ recruiting companies that will sell you just about anything but in the end it boils down to your kids talent, grades and being on top of the process. That is at least my own opinion.
