Before we go to orientation, should we have a list of classes we want to take or go on limb?

A mental list should be just fine... but keep in mind that they dedicate some time at Orientation to let you mull over which classes to sign up for, so don't think too hard about it. I, for one, went on a limb, and got all the classes I ended up wanting to take.

how would u prepare alist of classes, there seems to be a million

go to the "class planner" on your myucla and play around with it. the problem is that some classes might get full, so create a couple backup plans if you want. if anything, at least just know which classes are offered. actually you can check the enrollment status of the class there too.

I think more importantly, the question is--which classes should we take? Especially for most of us coming in as undecided. Should we do our research on GEs, etc beforehand, or will they help us at Orientation w/ all that stuff?

Ah, I just read the "which classes should I take?" thread. Thanks a lot kcfu, that was really helpful!

i'm confused. okay so it looks like the only math requirement for the poli-sci major is Statistics. that means it's okay to NOT take a math placement diagnostic @ orientation right?

you don't have to take the math diagnostic at orientation if you plan on being poli sci because it doesn't require calculus or anything like that. all poli sci majors (and almost all social science majors) have to take stats though.

Not sure if there are any former transfer students here, but if so, how long does it take before your Degree Progress Report was viewable? Once I have that it'll be a bit easier for me to see what I need to take.
