Should we refile FAFSA? Can you do that?

My husband has been unemployed for most of this year, and I recently lost my job as well. Before that, we filled in the FAFSA for our daughter and our EFC was pretty high. How do we go about letting them know, and who do we tell about our change in circumstances? Is she likely to get more aid now?

You cannot refile FAFSA. You must contact the financial aid department of your daughter’s school and tell them of your change of circumstances. They will ask for documentation proving the circumstances. If they feel it is appropriate they can make a special circumstances adjustment they (not you) can go into your FAFSA and adjust your income to reflect the new ncome. The numbers would then be run through the EFC formula again producing a new EFC. Good luck.

Do it ASAP.

Call the school ASAP and ask for a Professional Judgment form as your circumstances have changed drastically.
