<p>If all you have are music and school files, there’s no need for an external. In reality, a 4GB Flash Drive can be enough to back up all your important documents. The only time you have to worry about space is if you use lossless music (MP3s aren’t lossless), keep tons of video files, lots of high-quality pictures, programs, or the like. And even if you do need an external, $80 for 320GB is too much. You can get a 1TB for around that much money.</p>
<p>This thread was started two years ago. Perhaps drives were a little more expensive back then.</p>
<p>I got 1TB for about $125. I definitely recommend getting one just in case. Plus mine is pretty portable. </p>

<p>I think that my next will be a 3 TB drive. I have 2 1/3 on my desktop right now and 1 TB external on my laptop at home. I plan to do a home desktop upgrade in 2011 or 2012 and will rearrange my storage setup. Maybe there will be 4 TB drives then.</p>
