Should you explain the school's AP policy in "other info" section?

Another app question! My daughter just pointed out to me that she only sends her school transcript if she gets admitted.
Which means they don’t get a school profile report. Her school does not allow freshmen to take any AP classes, and even as a sophomore they can take only two max. Obviously this affects her weighted GPA and not in a good way! Is this something she should put in the “other info” section?

I would, if for no other reason you’ll feel better after doing it.

Is it an out of state school? Then that info could be helpful, otherwise UF is very familiar with the in-state schools.

Yes. It’s especially important if you don’t live in Florida, and thus have a different set of requirements and options. (FL students tend to have a wide set of options).

Yes it is out of state. Even though our weighted scale is technically 5.3 the highest achievable is only like 4.65 even with As in everything, since you can’t take those APs in the earlier years. Thanks for the advice!

Her weighted gpa should only be compared to others at her school, who are under the same rules of no freshmen in AP, etc. If a school had no APs at all, and some don’t, that school might not even have a weighted gpa.

How is UF evaluating her for admissions if they do not see a transcript, don’t know her class rank, don’t see the strength of her courses? They really can’t see that off self reported grades. I know they get transcripts from Florida high schools.

Im from an out of state high school where APs were super limited unless you were in the top 20 of the class (spoiler alert: i wasnt). I didnt say anything specifically about Aps but i did mention how i went to a more rigorous and competitive high school.

@twoinanddone UF only wants transcripts IF you’ve been accepted, they don’t need them for admissions. Instead students have to complete the SSAR. The SSAR does include class rank (If I remember correctly), and you do have to signify if the courses are standard, “honor” or AP/IB/DE/AICE.

Both of my in-state kids only submitted their transcripts after being accepted.

And to add insult to injury her school stopped doing rankings unless you are 1 or 2. My daughter is likely in the 6-9 range out of 186; but we can only report deciles, so top 10%. So frustrating… these kids work so hard and it’s like they want to take away any recognition! (And she has a twin brother who is definitely NOT in the top 10, so I have perspective from both sides.) anyway, I digress… lol

I think @Gator88NE has the best advice: if it will make you feel better knowing you did, the add it.

Also, don’t sweat the class rank. According to the UF Common Data set, UF “considers” class rank but does not deem it “important” (like standardized test scores) or “very important” (like rigor, GPA and the essay.) Google “UF common data” set and see for yourself.
