McIntire School of Commerce (Business)

McIntire School of Commerce: Admissions FAQ

I think the acceptance rate is usually around 50%, but I may be wrong

You would only go to UVA because you want to be in McIntire?

the reason I want to go to UVA so badly is to get into McIntire eventually. I hear once you're in the school, it's pretty easy to maintain the gpa and get in. It's also arguably the best undergraduate school in the country.

For those who are unaware, you don't enter the McIntire School of Commerce until your third-year. Meaning your first two years are in the College, where you have to satisfy all the McIntire prerequisites before you know if you get in. Part of this is because McIntire likes well-rounded students who have two years of a liberal-arts education behind them.

The acceptance rate for McIntire is somewhere around 60-65%, which is higher than the general acceptance rate for UVA (35%), but of course the applicant pool is tougher.

I don't think it's arguably the best. It's arguably the second best. Wharton is number one. I really love UVA though (the school) and I love McIntire. People have to get into UVA first. Then they apply to McIntire. Yes, the majority of people get into McIntire, but it's hard to get into UVA in the first place.

FYI, there is a fifth year program in McIntire. Obviously, most students want to go through the traditional program, but the fifth year option would allow you to earn an undergrad degree in the College of Arts & Sciences and then stay on for an extra year to do a Masters in Commerce.

The McIntire School is amazing, the numbers speak for themselves.

If you are dead set on an undergraduate business school, and you're not going to Wharton, there is no better.

It is not easy, however. All my friends in the Comm school work the butts off, more than any other (yes that includes engineers).

wazhoom, even harder than the nueroscience folks? ;D

stresst, the mcintiree business programs at uva are amazing. Go to the website and look at all the options that are offered within the majors. One of my friends is doing a five year bachelors-masters degree in accounting and shes loving every minute of it. To have someone loving accounting is a feat itself IMO. Just thouroughly research all the business programs you are interested in, and make the educated decision.

The competition is rough, but dont let that dissuade you. Many people get into various colleges they once thought impossible. Unless the application fee is a huge issue - go for it! ( and I think you can get a waiver for it if that is the case)

i've heard the commerce program there is really great & totally worth it. i would definitely do it!

No, you shouldn't.

Just Kidding. :P
