Right now I'm typing many homework assignments and papers because they are easy to keep track of and organized. However, my handwriting is in the range of decent to poor and I cannot write really fast without having my handwriting deteriorate. My notes are extremely sloppy and sometimes I have a hard time reading them.

With that being said, she I start writing more to improve the neatness of my writing and increase my pace for the SATs and other APs that involve writing?

Haha.

Seriously though, I think this is a valid question. There used to be a student in the Class of 06 in my school who had handwriting which was so poor that our AP Chem teacher routinely gave him 50% if he could not decipher his writing on an exam or a lab. When SAT/AP exam came, he actually practiced handwriting for one week. I think poor handwriting is generally a practice accumulated through chronic carelessness and apathy. Needless to say, he quickly improved and received decent scores on his AP exams (if he went into those exams with the handwriting I've seen on his lab reports...he would have probably gotten a "no grade" for all of his FRQs).

I suggest gradually writing more in order to get the hang of writing by hand fast. I had/have this same problem. My APUSH teacher had me write in CAPS for the free responses/DBQs. If it doesn't work out, maybe you could try doing the same thing.
