I'm a rising senior and in the process of college applications right now. i thuoght i had finalized my college list, but recently i began to consider New York University. I don't really know too much about what NYU looks for so i was hoping you guys could help me out and let me know if i have a chance and should apply or if i'd just be wasting my time.

Here's some info:

Major: Biology/pre-med
State: California
Ethnicity: Asian-Indian
GPA: 4.1 W/ 3.6 NW
Community service: about 200 hours
Sports: Track (2 yrs)
Clubs: i'm in about 5 clubs, and hold positions for 2. I'm also starting a club at school this coming school year.
Extra: I've always tried to do something productive every year. From going on conferences and being involved with medical programs to volunteering and having a job to taking some extra classes at my community college.

If you need any more info, just let me know.

You have a shot at NYU for sure. Send the ACT, not SAT. However, if you need financial aid it’s not a good choice as you won’t be at the top of their pool.

your ECs seem a little ambiguous. a lot of people have a common misconception that NYU is really easy to get into… in fact it is the school with the most applicants every year; even for ED there is a low chance of admittance. Your GPA and ACT seem well within its range; have you taken any SAT 2’s? Do you have a specific major/focus? Do your ECs reflect that? Those are the kinds of things NYU will be asking. If you gave more info on that front people could chance you better.

i intend to go into biological sciences and medicine in the future. I was a little vague on my EC’s, but heres a little more detail:

the club that i am planning to start at my school is focused on helping student became aware of the various opportunities the health field provides. it is focused on medicine and helping students successfully pursue that field.

the volunteer work done i have done has been at hospitals.

the summer work i have done (conferences, state wide projects, etc) have also been focused on health awareness. i am actually a part of a program that focuses on spreading health awareness.

As for SAT 2’s…i took them last year but was not at all happy with my scores so i will be taking them again this year. I will be taking math 2 and biology.

I would visit. My kids are New Yorkers but never took a look until they were about to apply. None of them liked it–no campus and after freshmen year dorms are in places like China Town.

i think it wouldnt be waste to try applying there
idk last year my friend got into nyu early and i think urs and his stats seem similar?
goodluck!
