I applied as a transfer for the coming spring semester. I finished everything and sent my application on the 15th of this month. American University received my transcripts just a few days ago, so it is officially complete and being reviewed. I have a 3.84 overall GPA. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and have been consistent on being on the Dean’s list every semester at my local community college. I had three recommendations sent which I think will be good. I did apply test optional as I have well over 32 credits. I was very happy with my application essay, and believe I demonstrated diversity that would be beneficial to the university. However, I worry after reading some of the threads on here that my “higher” GPA will make them think I view them as a safety. Which couldn’t be further from the truth. They are my top choice, and frankly the only one I’m really considering. I also have straight A’s this semester which will further bring up my GPA. Unfortunately my EC’s aren’t that shining. I only went to the regional information session. I have not visited campus because I live in NC, and have just been busy with school. Should I show more interest? Or do you think I’m okay? I’m considering writing my admissions rep to further tell him why I love the school so much, but I don’t want to pester. My major would be computer science, which isn’t a typical choice for the school so I thought that is unique to my application as well. Any advice would be appreciated.
I think that AU likes to see interest from prospective students. As the parent of a student who inquired about the school, they sent me a letter explaining as much, and suggesting that our child plan a visit. Other parents I know received the same letter. However, we all live within an hour of the campus, ao thay might be a factor. I don’t think it will hurt to contact the admission rep to express your ongoing interst, and to say how the regional information session has solidified your desire to attend AU. I know you are busy, but perhaps there’s still time to visit the school.
Thank you. I did end up contacting my admissions rep as well. Hopefully everything works out.
