Thank you BriarBard for your repsonse...am thinking this topic might merit its own thread. Don't know if any current senior MT students are out there that can offer any insight into their experience at Showcase.

Please see the response I left you on the Part 39 thread before realizing you had set this up. I think showcases are great if everyone can participate in them (which is only true at some schools), but I don't think the showcase is a must - see my other sheet for notes on what is done alternatively at Elon, OCU, and OU.

Ericsmom-Thank you for the info on the other schools...I too believe one should not discount a program because it may not offer a showcase. I have heard some opinions such as they are not well attended (except for CCM) or they are attended by assistants to casting and very helpful. I guess any exposure in this business is a plus.

Ericsmom-Thank you for the info on the other schools in regard to my question as to the importance of attending a MT program with a showcase.
I too believe one should not discount a program because it may not offer a showcase. I have heard some opinions, such as they are not well attended (except for CCM) or they are frequented by casting assistants only.I suppose any exposure is a good thing in this business. I still would like to know other's thoughts, feelings, opinions on the subject.

so sorry for the double post!!!

As with all things in relation to the "business" there are many opinions on this subject. I remember last year on CC, (the MT thread) there was a lot of discussion about showcases.

It was a selling point for my S when he was looking at college BFA programs. I happen to be of the mind set that exposure to people in the industry is a good thing, especially if it is on both coasts. But it is important to keep in mind that people do break into the industry without attending a showcase. It is also important to keep in mind that a showcase won't necessarily yield something for everyone. It can, on the other hand, yield an opportunity in which you may get a "break". Sometimes all it takes is being in the "right" place at the "right" time and being seen by the "right" person, (people).

bump - need to combine this with the new showcase thread! Also, see the showcase discussion on the Colleges for Musical Theatre - Part 39 thread, page 19, also on 4/17/05.
