showing college a improving GPA effective?

well. I screwed up my freshmen year and sophmore year really badly...
total GPA 3.0 so far.
because my GPA is so low, I'm not really thinking of taking really hard courses much
but just focusing on my GPA on my junior year...
is it worth it?

do colleges actually look at your apps whether you improved alot?
or do they just look at your AP classes?

I'm not sure at this point, because one of my friend
who used to have D&F during his fresh and soph year got 4.0 GPA during his junior
and got into UCSD.
but my another friend brought up her grade, but didn't get into colleges where she wanted to get in.

I'm planning to major in non profit/public/ organization management here,
and would there be chance for me?

P.S or do you guys know any colleges with this major? because this major is kinda rare :(
or any suggesting related major that I can consider thinking about it? :D

thank you :)

It depends entirely on the college. Some will take a look, others won’t lend much weight to the trend. I imagine more often than not it’s a marginal effect. If your test scores are good but your GPA doesn’t match them, they’ll see that you have an improving GPA and will take a chance with you. In any case, it doesn’t change your strategy for this year and next - work your behind off to get your GPA up as high as you can!

I think if you showed them great improvement and got a 4.0 junior and 1st semester senior year it would look really really good! Already with all A’s by the end of Junior year you would have a 3.25 GPA! :)

thank you so much for your answers  it helped me alot :D
