Hello! I'm currently a sophomore right now and I really like NYU primarily because of its great Undergrad. business school.. of course Stern. I was wondering if I showed a dedication to learning business throughout highschool if that would give me any sort of edge. So basically im asking if it matters to show a lot of interest in business in highschool if u plan on applying to stern. Currrently im in accounting and will take full year accounting next year as well.. that counts as a college credit (our local CC gives us college credit for 2 years of full acct) prob. wont be rewarded at nyu but.. Also i'm taking online business classes on virtual high school. Right nwo im taking economics and i plan to take the stock market and international business next year. Also im in FBLA and i plan to attempt to get some sort of business related internship next year. Does showing an interest in business help or not really? Thanks

In a short answer: Yes, an interest in business will help you. Even if it doesn't help you immensely, it certainly will not hurt in admissions.

also since you are in fbla try and participate in their competitions.

it will certainly help you, but don't go waaaaaaaay out of your way. i had absolutely no business classes or internships related to business in my application; all i did was talk about it in my essay- got into stern for class of 2009

By the way Master Debater....great screen name.

lol yeah thanks....

how did you write about business? what did you write about..

As i'm making my schedule for junior year i'm wondering if i should continue taking an online class. I would be either taking international business or a class about the stock market. I'm really torn and i don't know what to do! My schedule is already crammed but you know how that is. I really want to go to Stern, my initial reach was Wharton but that is moving further and further away from me whereas Stern is more of a match, still def a reach! If somone would IM me that would be great! xonicole143ox...

Did you apply to Wharton?

I posed this question to the Wharton guys (and I'm sure it applies here too)... you don't necessarily need to participate in clear-cut business activities.

For instance, I was President of a club this year- although it was the 'Engineering' club, I was able to play it off from a very Business-like standpoint (my having a 'managerial' position, fundraising, etc).
