I really like Wash U, but I don’t know how I should show interest. I live far away so I couldn’t visit (I skyped with my dad when he was on a work trip at campus though). Would sending an email explaining why I think the school would be a good fit be a good idea? Thanks!
How about you try to meet with your local rep next time they’re in your area?
Are you a senior? They do care about interest. Sign up for emails on the admissions site if you haven’t, go to any local presentations they have, sign in at their table at college fairs. Your application is your chance to show it is a good fit – I would not send a separate email.
Yeah, I’d meet with a rep. I’d notify the school via email and explain that you are too far to visit but have great interest. As about other ways to get to know the school better. Wash U likes interest but being full pay is far more important unless you have objective stats that walk on water. If you are full pay or if your stats are so good they’d balance out the poorer stats of full pay students, they would welcome hearing from you.
The reps are insanely busy reading apps now… They aren’t generally out drumming up applicants.
Yep… it is probably too late to show interest now… if you are already a senior.
@lostaccount I’m asking for aid, but I have good stats (36 ACT, 3.99 UW GPA, 800 on Math II and Chem, 790 on US History, and 9 APs). Do you think the financial thing will cancel out good stats? Thanks!
@lostaccount WashU is making a big effort to increase economic diversity. They are planning to double the number of Pell grant recipients they enroll each year so that they will have at least 13% by 2020. I don’t think the “financial thing” will cancel out good stats.
Also, while it is good to show interest if you can, it is not a deal-breaker if you don’t. The first of my two WashU kids showed zero interest, because at the time he applied he didn’t really have any interest in the school and applied as a last-minute thing. No visits, no meeting with local reps, no interview. Nonetheless he was accepted, and after visiting the school in April, he developed a big interest and chose to attend.
You can try emailing them to show interest. If you do, be sure to include an update or ask a question, and then perhaps at the end mention that you’d really want to go
