On the supplement, there is no place for a "why vandy" essay. I went there on a tour and info session and have showed some interest. I'm wondering if I should write something along with my application. Is it even worth it? Does Vandy have a record of people who came and visited in their files?

My daughter is a sophomore at Vandy. She absolutely loves it there. She decided after her first visit in mid-November of her senior year to go ED (she had spoken to their admissions rep on may occassions and developed a nice relationship with him). Her scores, GPA, etc... were all middle of the road for Vandy and she was accepted ED. They swear that interest doesn't play into it but I know it helped her having shown so much interest and letting the admissions rep get to know her. She had to be borderline base strictly on the numbers.

I don't think they do say that interest doesn't help. Over at the Vanderbilt Admissions Blog, one recent post said:

"At Vanderbilt, these [ED] students receive a slight admissions advantage. Basically, a student who is a borderline applicant in our Regular Decision pool will be admitted during the ED process. Students applying ED are saying that they LOVE VU, and we admissions officers respond to this by being a bit more generous in our admissions decisions. "

I have talked to my rep a lot, so that's good. But should I write something in addition to my application to demonstrate this?
