First off, let me give a little exposition. Right now I’m in eighth grade and I’m about to start high school (yikes!). I know that to get into a good college- which I hope to do- I’m going to need to show passion in some area. However, I just don’t know what that passion is! I really like a lot of things, and throughout my life I’ve tried not to just focus on one sedential thing. So, what’s a good way to find out what my passion is, and then take steps to excelling in it? I guess as of now, my passion is math and broadcast announcing (I recently placed first at my State speech competition). Any feedback would be helpful! Thanks!
I have a lot of interests as well that I want to and hopefully could turn into a career. The most important thing is to continue to practice the things you like to do and keep an open mind for new interests. Also, if you like math then try to participate programs that include math. Maybe computer programs?
Also, and I say this a lot… Read the Economist. Its great in my opinion and will help a lot with vocabulary and world awareness.
Is it like a magazine or is it written by someone? If so, who’s the author? Thanks!
Join clubs that reflect any of your interests in freshman year then find ways to combine your interests later on.
There are many authors of the Economist. Its a news magazine, but presents news on not only world affairs but business, tech news, and politics. A lot of stuff is in there.

At the 2:35 mark in this wonderful video, a Stanford Admissions Officer talks about “passion” in college applications. Students should really listen and pay attention to what is being said!
