Is it true that you only need a 430 on the SAT II Spanish subject test to waive the foreign language requirement for CLAS? It seems pretty low since that would be equivalent to the fourth or fifth percentile of test takers.
I don’t even think UF looks at the subject test. Pretty sure you can just pass an AP/IB exam for a specific Spanish course to waive the requirement.
UF will also look at SAT subject tests in order to waive the language requirement (see below). I was just wondering if anyone could confirm that you only need a 430 on the Spanish subject tests as it seems pretty low in comparison to the scores needed for other SAT subject language tests.
Demonstrating Proficiency By Exam
You may demonstrate proficiency by exam if you meet one of the conditions listed below:
Earn a passing (A-E) score on an AICE Foreign Language exam.*
Earn a 3 or higher on an AP Foreign Language exam.*
Earn a 4 or higher on an IB Foreign Language B exam.*
Earn a score of 59 or higher on the CLEP French Language exam or a 63 or higher on the CLEP Spanish Language exam.
Earn an appropriate SATII score for Spanish, French, German, or Latin. (Please see the Office of the University Registrar for the minimum scores)**.
I had a 79/80 CLEP German score and they wouldn’t even accept that as the language requirement, but a 59 in French is fine…
@UFgogators
Write the undergrad coordinator for Spanish, he or she will be the one determining if your score is enough.
Yes, a 430 means the CLAS foreign language requirement has been met. You only have to show proficiency of someone who has completed Spanish 2, not fluency.
Oh, don’t mind me I don’t know what I’m talking about.
My D took the SAT II for Latin in order to get FL proficiency for CLAS, just in case she did not get a 3 on her AP Latin exam. I do not remember the exact score required, but it was only the 25 percentile. Not top 25%, but 25% or above.
