SHP Admissions

Hey--

Anyone know how the admission procedure is for Columbia University Science Honors Program? Is it by grade (like, they have to admit a certain number per grade). Is there a curve? What should the bare minimum score be for each part of the test to get in? Do your grades, letter of recommendation, or essay matter at all? Is it ok if you put more than one thing when they ask you your main field of interest on the test?

There is a curve based on grades, but as far as I know, no quotas. And yes, your grades and recs matter. What essays? And I don't remember "main field of interest."

Anyway, you'll get your decision late June, so relax.

I saw the instruction sheet sent to my high school. It says admission is based on your transcript, rec, and performance on the entrance exam. I guess the essay doesn't count for much. =P

Someone in my room asked the proctor if we could select two fields, and he said we could if we numbered them in order of preference. So I selected a first and second choice. I bet the field you selected won't have significant affect on your decision. Maybe if it comes down to two candidates who have the EXACT same transcript, rec, and test scores, then they'll pick the one with the less common field of interest. But of course that would never happen. Just in case, though, I put Earth Science first and Biology second. It's probably just to make sure they don't have everyone wanting to enroll in one or two classes.

Theoneo im in 9th grade, not 11th - yea 10ish on challenge, left a few blank on science, none blank on 1st math. If i have the grades and letter of rec, if u are already in SHP, to anyone here, how do i stand with those exam scores?

lol i got lazy for the bug problem and didnt round to a far enough decimal place if i did i wouldve gotten something over .75 and wouldve gotten the right answer

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE APPROX MIN REQUIREMENTS ON THE EXAM FOR BEING ADMITTED TO SHP?

to anyone that is in SHP right now-- wat are the approx exam scores needed to be admitted? I'm super excited about going, if I get in....
