Shumway Surgical Skills Stanford Summer Internship?

Does anyone know any information about this internship? I've researched the website as it sounds like a great program.

Has anyone here applied to this program and gotten accepted? I would love to know any information about the application process, and how things go as of admissions.

Thanks!

yea, it sounds like a great program to me too…I dont think the app for the summer is out yet. My only prob with it is that it says high school and pre-med students. Am a junior in college and the idea of being surrounded with a lot of high school kids is not really appealing to me. But if its a mix of both high school and college students that would be great! Good luck applying though!

i just received my acceptance letter for this! it does sound like a good program. i’m a high school junior at the moment. does anyone know the stats for admission? like how many people applied v. how many got in?

Did they email you or mail you a letter for the acceptance ?? I haven’t got mine yet.
And what’s your stats, are you a junior /senior in high school and GPA, etc… ?
Thanks

yeah they emailed it to me. did you apply too? ahh good luck (: my GPA is a 3.853 unweighted and a 4.116 weighted, so it isn’t that great. i took a lot of APs though (5 this year as a high school junior). i got into session 2 (the sessions are the same, it’s just the dates that are different. do you know what percentage of people are accepted? again good luck!(:

oh by the way i didn’t submit an SAT because i hadn’t received my score for that yet. my PSAT was too low for my liking so i didn’t do that either.

did you apply too, Cordycepin?

infinitynerd : I applied, and haven’t heard from them yet, I am only a sophmore with 4.0/4.13GPA, with lots of experience …wonder why they don’t take me, maybe because I am a sophmore. So are you going ?? Pls update us on what it’s like after the summer, THX !
Have fun !

wow, great gpa! just because you haven’t heard anything yet doesn’t mean they won’t still take you! and i don’t think i got accepted because of my gpa or experience. i think a lot of people who applied to this had experience. for me, it was definitely my essays, which were probably the best personal essays i have written. i have a lot to write about though. i am officially going (: are you international? i’m in the US so maybe that has something to do with it.

Infinitynerd: I ended up not applying and applied to my state’s governor school for medicine instead (Virginia).

Congrats on acceptance though! Do you have any more information like program costs or whats covered? I would love to apply next year. Congrats again!

Hi - I was accepted as well. How do you tell which session you were accepted to? The acceptance letter didn’t mention anything. Thx

Cordycepin: WAIIIT A SECOND. fellow virginian! woohoooo(((: what are the odds of that?! I applied for gslsm too, but my school system is the most competitive in the united states , so my school had multiple cuts and i didn’t make the very last one. thankfully, i knew before this deadline and i guess that rejection was sort of a wake up call for me so i was able to scramble and submit my app for this too. thanks(: the curriculum is on the website, and the cost is there too. i think it’s 3000 dollars…unfortunately. i’m going to fundraise though(: and housing is apparently available also! you should definitely apply next year. it sounds like an amazing experience. i’m totally pumped!

stanfordready: YAY CONGRATULATIONSSS(: yeah, my acceptance letter didn’t say anything either but i found that it was in the subject of my email. i.e. “Stanford - Shumway Surgical Summer Internship 2012 for program 2 w revised dates” congrats(: it would be so cool if we are in the same session. high school or undergrad? and are you international? i really want to meet international people…lol.

Hello CC:
I am a sophmore and I just got accepted into Shumway at Stanford, I also got accepted into UI SSTP, which is also a very good program.
I am so torn between which one to go to, suggestions ??
Thanks

I have the same acceptance email and didn’t mention anything about dates.

that’s odd. i had the “program 2” in the subject of my acceptance letter, and then i looked online on the website for dates.

I got accepted to Shumway too!! Does anyone know how prestigious this program is? I couldn’t find anything. Also, how do you know which session you got accepted to? I don’t see anything about which session I got accepted to on the letter I received. Thanks!

i called and asked a week ago because i wanted to know about housing. when i told them i was in session 2 (it said in the subject of my email), they said “oh so you must be underage” so i’m guessing that high schoolers were placed in session 2 and undergraduates are in session 1

and shumway has an approx 6.6% acceptance rate i think, in case that helps with your decision bbcarol

I was accepted. Im a junior in HS. The subject did not not say which session so I’m assuming I’m in session 1. Maybe I should call and confirm. Can someone let me know what number to call? Thanks

Hey you guys  I was accepted back in early March but just found this thread. ^ I’d like to know the number as well and any other thoughts on how prestigious this program is? Also, where’d you find the acceptance rate stats, infinitynerd?

Looks like everyone who applied on this thread got in and it costs $3k, so perhaps not that prestigious. I doubt the 6.6% acceptance stats someone posted, but could be wrong.
