I'm trying to book my son's flight and he needs to come in the night before pre-orientation. The best flight is to Hartford, but the CT limo stops running at 11:00 p.m. and his flight would land at 11:23 p.m. What are the best options for getting from Bradley to New Haven? Thanks.

Also, I might switch to JFK – what is the best shuttle there? I believe there are more options than there used to be.

I believe you can call a taxi. It likely costs around $110 (a few years ago.) I think it is better to arrange it in advance. (i.e., the car service. It costs a little bit more.)

When DS arrived at BDL very late, we usually arranged it so that he stayed at the hotel which is attached to the BDL airport (likely a Sheraron) that night. He needed to get there one day earlier though.

For some reason, he has never tried the JFK route. I think it takes too long to ride the CTLimo or GoCar from JFK to the campus.

Thanks. It didn’t occur to me to have him stay in an airport near the hotel. He’d need to stay in one in New Haven that night anyway. Can you stay in a hotel by yourself if you are not quite 18?

DD flew out of JFK a lot when she was at Yale. It took a long time to get there, but the flight was non-stop and came to a smaller airport closer to us. Southwest flights have connections. Everything is a trade-off.

JFK/LGA RT is usually at least $100 cheaper than Bradley. The shuttle costs perhaps $30 more on CT limo RT so you can decide if the extra travel time to a college student is worth $70. You are more likely to get a reasonable replacement flight or non-stop service from one of the NYC airports given the many airlines that fly nearly hourly routes. If your child opts to take the NYC public transit/Metro North route, the transfers are even less than for Bradley but I wouldn’t recommend that for a novice freshman traveler. You might also want to look at Newark airport and see how late the Amtrak trains run from that site. I doubt you would have any problem staying in a hotel under age 18 as long as you had a credit card.

mimk6, We usually made a reservation and paid online using DS’s credit card (to help establish his credit) for that Sheraton Hotel attached to the BDL airport. I do not think he has ever had a problem.

I hate to hijiack this thread, but I’ve heard about QConn Shuttle (which, according to its website, runs from Bradley and will have a shuttle arrive at 11:52 PM on a random date I selected) as an alternative to CT Limo. Does anyone have any experience with QConn? I’ve read horrendous reviews about CT Limo, so I’m trying to find alternatives for both me and my parents for August.

Yes, I’ve noticed there are some shuttles that didn’t exist before and I’d love to get feedback on them. They all (both) seemed not-that-great to me the last time around. I’m hoping there is more to pick from now.

While I know that flying to New York is generally cheaper, for some reason this time around I’m getting the best price going into Hartford which I’m glad about. Also, Southwest will allow two suitcases which helps for move-in.

I did call QConn. I was told that they shuttle from Bradley when Yale students are coming in and going out but not all the time. I was told that beginning July 1 I can log on and if the website allows me to make a reservation then that means the date counts. They do late night pickups. The price is around $55. If that works out, I think I’ll let him go to NH that night so all he has to do the next morning is get to where they meet for the trip.

The New Haven Hotel asked for the age and said a person must be 21 or over to stay in their hotel alone. So I figured out the shuttle situation and now I need to figure out if he can even stay in NH.

It seems like the QConn website already lets me book shuttles from Bradley to Yale in mid-August & late-August.

And according to Yale Travel ([Yale University Travel Services](<a href=“Yale Travel Management | It's Your Yale”>Yale Travel Management | It's Your Yale)), we can use “Yale” as a coupon for 10% off!

Great! Meanwhile, it is a real problem that DS is under 18 for hotels. I’m going to have to seek approval from a manager. Some hotels have a flat policy of no one under 21.

It has been a while so I may forget the details. I vaguely remember that I needed to talk to the manager at some hotel (either the one at BDL or the Omni Hotel at Temple street in New Haven, two of our “favorate” hotels) and faxed them something, which proved that I as a parent allowed my minor child to stay there alone.

I think both the hotel and the rental car company are most “unfriendly” to minors or youngsters.

The Sheraton at Bradley has a parent consent form with which they will let a minor stay. The Courtside Marriot in NH told me I could try talking to a manager. However, at this point, I have a better rate for the Sheraton and a reservation so I might just stop there and he can take the shuttle in the morning. (Also, not a fan of the Marriot in NH.)

Doesn’t seem to work for me now. I just purchased a ticket to Bradley (couldn’t do LGA and get to New Haven by noon) and CT limo only has every 2 hour service on the morning of the Harvest program (August 19th) and Go Shuttle only has private car service. Anyone else flying into Bradley that morning that wants to share a private car or SUV?

^Really? It’s still working for me. Go to [QConn Shuttle - Home](http://www.qconnshuttle.com/), scroll to the bottom, and find the green circle that says “Special Holiday Rates for Bradley.” When I click it, it takes me to the booking tool, which lets me book shuttles from Bradley to Yale.

^My bad. I was clicking on the link to New Haven travel closer to the top of the page.

I just called Qconn when I did not get a confirmation by e-mail of a reservation it let me make on-line. They told me that they do not do shared shuttles from Bradley (at all or on those August pre-orientation dates?) and only do shuttles from the NYC airports. Private car service from Bradley will run over $130. As someone whose kid usually uses LGA, I’m regretting Bradley now.

^That’s strange. When I called a few days ago, the QConn representative told me that they were about through updating their site to include booking from Bradley to New Haven. Was your credit card charged for your online booking?

EDIT: Just called again. Representative said that I won’t be able to make my reservation online until after July 1st, so maybe you could try again in July?

I was also told after July 1. I was told they always have a run to Yale during peak travel times for Yale students.
