Can anyone tell us how the shuttles work during busy holiday departure/arrival times at Bama? Can’t imagine how quickly they must fill with students trying to get to the airport–do they ever “sell” out? We have a freshman and are trying to arrange his Thanksgiving and Christmas return home and we live out of state. And, any advice on saving money on air fares? Thanksgiving rates are already getting high…

"We can accommodate an unlimited number of students, so don’t worry that a specific time will “sell out.” "

Where is “home”? Birmingham is well serviced by airlines.

here is another shuttle that I have used b/f from BHM to ATL

If Thanksgiving travel is too pricey, you may find keeping put may be the best option, finals are the second week back. DS, and may others, never come home. Even he, my quiet, shy child first year was invited to local home. Next 2 years a group of OOS have prepared their own festivities. No travel stress, time to rest, get head start on studies, do laundry, bond, eat and if game is away, plop with friends to watch the game. Just a thought from a mom who has learned to delay the HUG a little longer.

Yes, socal2 is entirely right: Thanksgiving is very late this year…if your student were to travel, when they come back to UA on Dec 1, they will have exactly 1 week of school (‘dead’ week) and then finals are over on Dec 13. Save your money for the Christmas trip, and/or add a trip home in October (fall break) if you have the means to do so.
