My son has been accepted to SI Newhouse and USC Annenberg Schools for Broadcast Journalism. We are from Southern California and know that USC Annenberg is highly respected out here but we have also heard great things about SI Newhouse. There doen't seem to be any official rankings of these programs so I would love to hear any feedback the board has about either of these programs.

Got my answer in a PM from the mom of a current Newhouse student. Thanks very much! Both schools are great. Newhouse has an awesome reputation event on the West Coast where we live.

I can’t comment on the Annenberg school, but as someone who has taught at Newhouse, I will tell you that one of the school’s greatest strengths is it’s extremely tight-knit alumni network. Newhouse alums are extremely loyal about helping new graduates find jobs. I would say that the majority of these alumni are probably on the East Coast, so if your son wants to return to California, I don’t know how helpful that would be.

My S is a freshman at Newhouse in Broadcast Journalism. He is very happy with the school so far. Pro: He spends a lot of time nights and weekends on the campus radio and tv station, with his friends. In one of his academic classes in the fall, a professor noticed he
needed extra help in writing and offered to do an independent study with him this spring.
He loves sports and goes to a lot of football/basketball games also. I was impressed with the extensive orientation they did for parents, the seminars they had for parents on Parents weekend, the orderly preregistration for classes, and the distribution requirements (very clear and broad- he is taking Astronomy, etc.). Also, the speakers who come to campus- he has gone to a number of them.
Cons: the food.

i only have one thing i can really comment about annenberg, im a jr and the annenberg school is named after the grandpa of an annenberg at my high school…he’s a pretty nice guy, i know that has nothing to do with your question just a fun fact
