Sibling Intelligence

I was wondering how intelligence varies amongst your siblings.

Which sibling tends to be the smartest?

Is there a large gap between the smartest and dumbest sibling?

Is a person generally as intelligent as his or her siblings?

How does this factor in SAT scores and GPA?

How does this factor in in terms of getting into colleges? Which sibling gets into the best schools?

If you can answer some of these questions, it would be really nice. Also, please include the number of siblings you have, what child number you are, the genders, how they did in school, etc. if you do not mind.

I’m asking these questions for a reason because I want to know whether a certain conclusion that I came up with has any basis.

My older brother and I ended up both with the exact same SAT score on the 1600 scale, but I had a higher math and he had a higher verbal. His GPA was higher, I believe, but my schedule is more intense. 2 more APs than he had. But also, he works much harder in school. I'm strong in math/science and weaker in humanities, while my brother is strong in both. I haven't gotten into college yet, so I can't compare that.

I'd answer, but

I'm only going to be a sophomore, and I'm the oldest.

^ That doesn't help. I need people who have older siblings who have entered or graduated college already.

Gosh, it's all good, no need to scowl.

I wouldn't say that any one of us is more intelligent than the other, but school wise I would have to say I was the smartest. I am the youngest of three, male, and now 17. I have two sisters 21 and 23. School wise there was a large gap. I hap a GPA of 4.545 [W] and ranked 3rd, 21 yr old GPA about 3ish [W] ranked in the 70s, and the 23 yr old GPA about 2.5ish [W] ranked in the 140s [All three of us had a class of about 200]. SAT wise I beat both of them by about 600pts. My oldest sister attended Lock Haven and the middle attended Berkeley [not the UC] whereas I went 12 for 12 on colleges and I am attending Harvard this fall, so if that clears up anything.

Wow....that's interesting. Where in NJ are you from, if I may ask? Also, what do you think caused the academic difference between you guys?

I'm from northern NJ, Morris county to be more precise. I guess I just cared more.

Well I'm 1 yr younger than my older brother who graduated this year and I would say that while we have the same intelligence level, I beat him by 200 pts on the sat and work a lot less for the same grades. The SAT is probably because he didn't really take it seriously imo, whereas I took about 8 practice tests (no tutor/course though) My younger brother is just in 9th grade so I can't tell with him yet.

I'm smarter ... age difference is about 4 1/2 years (me being youngest...18 and he'll be 23 in october).

I've noticed a good amount of younger siblings being a decent amount smarter...

^^ yeah... I'm 3 years older than my brother. He'll be a soph, i'll be a senior. He's MUCH better at math than I am. He scored higher than I did on the SATs in 7th grade. He's advanced in math and equal to what i'm taking. I dont mind it. He's always there to help me with math. Not that i'm bad at it, just average.

English and History? I'm probably better, especially anything having to do with geography, spelling, grammar, etc.
Sciences, he probably wins. It's not my thing. I do fine. I've gotten straight B's in sciences. Although he takes honors sciences.

But overall intelligence, i'm probably a bit smarter than he is, although my parents dont give me credit. (Cant blame them--i'm a helluva slacker :/ )

Yeah, it definitely seems like the youngest tends to be the smartest. I think there is a large gap between the dumbest and smartest {school wise only}. Me and my sister (one year apart, she's older) had SAT scores about 700 points apart on the new scale and my GPA will be no less than 4.3 when I graduate this year while hers was no more than 2.0. My older brother (by two years) and I have about a 150 point difference on the old SAT with mine being higher and his GPA was 2.5 (though I attribute this mostly to laziness/indifference). My brother goes to Howard and my sister is going to Shaw. I'm hopefully going to Williams.

Wow...this is really interesting.

The trend was deleted. In my case...I'm the youngest & the dumbest. Cool, that rhymes. They say I have the most potential, though.

Which sibling tends to be the smartest? Me

Is there a large gap between the smartest and dumbest sibling? No, not really.

Is a person generally as intelligent as his or her siblings? I don't think so.

How does this factor in SAT scores and GPA? I'm only in seventh grade, so I haven't taken the SAT yet and neither has my sister. I have a 4.0 and she has a 3.2, I think.

How does this factor in in terms of getting into colleges? Which sibling gets into the best schools? I don't know...

BTW - My sister is only seven minutes older than me lol.

Cool. Twins. That's interesting. I wonder how it's going to turn out. It's probably going to be similar. I remember some twins on CC got a 2330 and 2360. I guess one twin got bragging rights.

OMG twins?

Are you and your sister identical Jonathan K.?

Um...Sorry to burst your bubble, but generally twins that have are of different genders are not identical.

What if one of them changes their DNA?

Huh?

My older sister is really smart in everything, but she's focusing on sciences. She got a 43 on her MCAT's which apparently is very good, and wants to be a doctor - applying to Med School this year.

I guess I'm somewhat "smart" in everything too, but I prefer the liberal arts and humanities and stuff. I'm not sure what I want to be yet but nothing science-y for me, really. It doesn't particularly appeal.

My little sister is smart too, but she focuses on creative outlets, like art and music. She wants to be an artist or art/music teacher, though she's only 10, I suppose. She's rather good, though, at least much better than I was.

I think we're all around the same intelligence (factoring in age differences - Older sister = 21, me = 15, younger sister = 10) but we all prefer different areas.

Strange, eh?

I'm the most intelligent of my two brothers and I. I'm the oldest and a girl LOL!

There isn't a LARGE gap between us. It just seems like I was born with more book smarts and they were born with more street smarts.

Yes, I think generally siblings share a similar amount of intelligence.

My gpa is about 3.9/4.0 (I'm the oldest, I just graduated from HS)
One of my brothers is 2.5/4.0 (He's the middle child, 16 years)
My other brother has about a 3.0/4.0 (He's the baby of the family, 15 yrs)

They basically aren't going to college, they couldn't really get into any!

Which sibling tends to be the smartest?
Me. The oldest. (18, rising freshman)

Is there a large gap between the smartest and dumbest sibling?
Not really between my brother (16), more noticeable with me and my sister (14). I did better when I was their ages without trying as hard.

Is a person generally as intelligent as his or her siblings?
They're both right near me, but things just come more easily to me--they have to put a little more effort. Like I didn't have to prep to get a 1420 on SATs, but my brother has to work at it to get about 1350. He hauls ass in school to get his GPA up (got a 4.1 for the first time)--I coasted.

How does this factor in SAT scores and GPA? See above.

How does this factor in in terms of getting into colleges? Which sibling gets into the best schools? I got into Stanford and Villanova (best schools I applied to--will be attending UMD on scholarship)
My brother probably won't be applying to high-end schools because what he really wants is a big scholarship because my parents promised him a car (the top of the list is a used M3) if he gets a substantial one. Haha.
