4 Kids - My older sister, me, little sister, little brother.

Which sibling tends to be the smartest?
Me! lol.

Is there a large gap between the smartest and dumbest sibling?
quite a large gap - i'm the straight A student. older sister is a work hard but doesn't do as well. little sister is the lazy but does okay. brother is too young to tell.

Is a person generally as intelligent as his or her siblings?
somewhat similar - asian family, same raising - it's just the work ethic that differs.

How does this factor in SAT scores and GPA?
my GPA - 4.41, older sister's GPA - 4.17, little sister's GPA - 3.8ish (but she's only a freshman so no weighted classes).
my SAT - 1550, older sister's 1080

How does this factor in in terms of getting into colleges? Which sibling gets into the best schools?
older sister got into UCSD, UCLA, UCR, UCI, UCDavis. she didn't apply to any.
i'm applying to HYS and the top 3 UCs. maybe a few others. GC said i'd get into the top 3 UCs easily, but elite schools are a different story.

Just wanted to tell yall something that made me laugh a little inside...since we're on the subject of family intelligence rivalry, I'm an only child, but everyone in my family thinks I'm really smart (HA! :) ) So my aunt has been calling my mom for the past 3 days...my cousin is a senior in high school and got his SAT score:

My aunt keeps freaking out and telling my mom because she wants to make my cousin sound smarter than me. (BTW, I scored 2220) Lol. But the worst part is, she tries to make my cousin sound really smart so she keeps saying "Well, I think his test was out of 1600. WHAT THE F!? My mom goes, "So, how do you think he did better than perfect?" The worst part of all of this is, my aunt is DEAD SERIOUS. She hasn't even bothered to open up the little booklet that came with the test to see what the highest score is...she just wants her son to sound incredibly smart.

1850 is not a horrible score (although by CC standards its pushing it), but what really gets me is the stupidity that is shown by people who try to make their kids seem smarter than everyone else. That is the saddest part... :(

asian parents like to compare/compete. my parents want me to apply to harvard just to say that i got in. i'm now the new "genius" of the family after 2 of my cousins went to UCBerkeley. my dad's side however, a total different story. i have a cousin who graduated in the top of his class from oxford.

one of the few times when they aren't super competitive asian parents. they love to brag about their kids. i think that parents think that it's an indicator of how good their genes and parenting are.

Which sibling tends to be the smartest?
Well... I wouldn't necessarily say I am smarter than my sister and 2 brothers, but it seems to me I apply myself more and have a lot more common sense. Only my oldest brother received a high school diploma. My sister and other brother got their GEDs. However, I still think of my sister as being smarter than I am. She was in the top 10 of her class and is the only person in our county to have made a perfect score on some state writing test. She is just obviously lacking in common sense due to the fact that she dropped out of school her senior year while being in the top 10 of her class. Doesn't make much sense to me, but oh well.

Is there a large gap between the smartest and dumbest sibling?
Yeah, kind of.

Is a person generally as intelligent as his or her siblings?
No, I don't consider my brothers as intelligent as I am.

How does this factor in SAT scores and GPA?
I can't include my brothers because I am pretty sure the one that actually got his diploma didn't have a good GPA, and my other brother probably had like a 1 point something. Pretty pathetic... But before my sister decided to drop out she was in the top 10 of her class, and I am in the top 10 of my class. So there is a bit of similarity there.

How does this factor in in terms of getting into colleges? Which sibling gets into the best schools?
My oldest brother (the one that got his diploma) recently received his associates degree from a Technical College. He wants to go onto a 4-year university to attain his Bachelor's Degree. My other brother attends the same Tech College that my oldest brother went to. And my sister is currently taking night classes at the local Community College. So, I'd say that I will get into the best schools. I want to major in Pre-Pharmacy at UNC, then go to their Pharmacy School.

My twin brother and I are probably equally intelligent, although I got a higher SAT score than him when we took the old one in sophmore year. I got a 1300 while he got a 1170 but when we took the new one next year the difference was only 20 points. GPA-wise it's pretty much the same. My older sister, however, who has already graduated from a local state college, got a very low SAT score (950 on the old) but a pretty good GPA. The reason she didn't do better was probably because she wasn't as motivated to get into a selective university and my parents thought a state university would be good enough since she would be the first one to go to college in the family.

I mean if one of the kids was born mentally deficient and the other normal then there would be a large difference but generally, I don't think there's TOO much of a difference.

Probably, although there will generally be some variations in intelligence.

in my family history, the younger siblings are the smartest:

my mother (youngest of 3) was the only one to finish college
my father (also youngest of 3) went to Princeton, vs. his siblings who both went to Penn (not that it is a bad school, but in terms of prestege)
my (younger) sister is much much smarter than I am

1. Which sibling tends to be the smartest?
I am. 2. Is there a large gap between the smartest and dumbest sibling?
Absolutely. 3.0 vs 4.0 Student (me). :) 3. Is a person generally as intelligent as his or her siblings?
Nope. 4. How does this factor in SAT scores and GPA?
I have no idea, but my friend does; contact him here. 5. How does this factor in in terms of getting into colleges? Which sibling gets into the best schools?

Am I a hideous person if I say that I don't want my younger brothers to be as smart as me (I'm not implying I'm smart or anything)? Don't get me wrong, I want them to be smart... just not as much as me ;) My brothers are 5 (today's his b-day :)) and 8, so it's too early to tell, but as much as I hate to admit it, the eight-year-old isn't coming off as too intelligent. So anyways, I'm rooting for elder siblings being more intelligent!

Let's see here...
I am probably the smartest one in my family. I have 3 older sisters and a younger brother.

My oldest sister got like a 20 on her ACT. She's a hard worker, is 27 and has her Master's Degree. She attended two state schools.
My next sister, 23, I think got a 25 on the ACT. She went to a Missouri state school for a little while and then transferred back closer to home. She graduated (from the sounds of it, barely) with a BS degree and is now a retail store manager.
My third sister who will turn 20 this fall didn't do too great on the ACT, but she is attending a good state school, one of them my oldest sister went to. She is working toward a teaching degree.
Next up is me. I'm 17 and I got a 28 on the ACT. I don't know their GPAs, but mine is a 3.53/4.0 currently and I have all honors or college classes this year. I am working toward getting accepted in the United States Military Academy at West Point and then I've also applied to a few state schools. My biggest weakness is science. And if I go to a civillian school, I'm going into athletic training which is all science!

Oh, and my brother wants to be a teacher. But he better get to liking school a little bit more if he's gonna do that everyday. I think, after his freshman year, his GPA is around a 3.3 or so but that's taking the easiest classes available like two PE classes.

I've done better in school than my sisters have (I have sisters two years younger than me, twins), but I think they could do better than they currently are if they were more motivated. I just graduated high school with a 4.11 GPA, my sisters' GPAs are around 3.5ish, don't know exact. Their classes so far are pretty much the same ones I took (honors). They haven't taken the SAT yet, but my PSAT scores were higher than theirs (comparing all of our 10th grade tests). Obviously can't compare colleges, as they won't even start applying for another year.

my brother graduated hs in 1997: ~1000 SAT, ~2.7 gpa
I graduated hs in 2000: 1400 SAT, ~3.98 gpa
my sister graduated hs in 2006: ~1060 SAT, ~3.3 gpa
from what i hear, our parents were similar to my siblings.
i love to read and do academic work in what i am interested in; i will be professional student for as long as i possibly can.
my bro (and probably sis) hate school/studying and wont be in school onger than they have to.

I'm not smarter than both of my brothers, honestly. It takes a longer time for me to understand things. I tend to have a better GPA and scores because I work harder...

i forgot to add that my bro and sis both took a prep class (my bro was one of those rare people that manage to go down in score....), whereas i did not.

Which sibling tends to be the smartest? My sister who is in 7th grade has a higher average than me by about 3-4 points. Me = 94.8 her: 97.7. I was a sophmore and now a senior but I don't really see how they compare as I go to a very challenging school. I do think

Is there a large gap between the smartest and dumbest sibling? I think in some cases yes and in some cases no. In my family there is not a large gap.

Is a person generally as intelligent as his or her siblings? I think to a certain degree. I think that there is always one sibling who has a higher average but is less intellectual.

How does this factor in SAT scores and GPA? n/a

About two days ago on tv, I don't remeber what show but a guy was talking about sibling rivarly and he said that it doesn't really matter if its only two kids and that it matters the most when there are twins.

My brother is 14 months younger than me and two grades behind. He is terrible compared to me, or basically anyone else. He's failed classes in middle school and as a freshman. I on the other hand am the exact opposite. I work hard to get good grades, where my brother doesn't do anything and gets crap grades. The gap between us in enormous.

Ya about the twin competitions. I know a pair of twins who compete A TON for grades. Every point matters because it gives them more of a chance of beating eachother. EXTREMELY competative...
