Hi! I applied to Colgate this year because my sister goes there. Overall, I have a stronger academic record than my sis (my 11 APs vs. her 5, her 19whatever on SATs vs. my 2090, I aced SAT IIs & she didn't take them). We're also Hispanic students, and Colgate isn't super diverse... How good are my chances? My "Why Colgate?" essay wasn't great... It's not one of my top choices, but I feel like it'd just be really awkward to not get accepted... Opinions?

I think you will get in easily

Yeah Colgate should not be a problem for you, especially if your sister got in with a worse academic record. Chance me?

If your sister got in, and you have better academics, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be accepted. (Unless ECs are a big deal at Colgate and your sister had better ones.)

You should definitely get in if your sister did.

Legacy plays an important factor in admissions (if you want to know how much look up the common data set) so i think you have a great shot.

My thread (chance please): <a href=“Chances for Vanderbilt, UNC, NYU, UF, and Duke? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke-p1.html

When people talk about legacy chances, it usually only affects in admissions if it’s a parent or grandparent. Why? Schools want to be a family tradition passed through generations: “I wanna go here because my dad went here, whose dad went here, whose dad went here…” Sibling legacy is noted but carries much less weight.

Regardless, you could get into Colgate blindfolded it sounds like. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, guys!
