Any one hAvE A chart thAt convErts rAw scorE to AcuAl scorEs

it varies ;)

A 710 in math won't keep you out of college . . . it has to be a collection of GPA, SAT, and at the very top colleges, extra-curricular and essays. An MIT admissions officer said himself that nothing beyond 700 in math is too low.

That being said, yeah, it really does suck. I missed 3 and got a 720 my first SAT.

mavman100 - your alternating lower case and capital letters in all your posts are driving me crazy.

CB should should make the test harder so we can get higher scores ---did that make any sense.

^ I agree!!!!!

I missed three and left three blank and got a 710.

I did the same and got 690.

fhimas, do you still have a link to that NYTimes article? It sounds interesting :)

the math curve is brutal but not that brutal. missing 3 question will usually get you about 760.
I hate it too. I always seem to miss one, whcih brings it down to 780. It's because so many peopple get perfects.
That's life.

I think a big issue might be in how the scores are scaled. A scale that goes up to 800 with intervals of 10 makes missing 100 points seem worse than it is. Remember, the test is curved so that scores at the 700+ range are viewed as "mastery" of a certain subject area (I remember seeing something like that on the PSAT score report).

one wrong and i got 770

^ Same here. It's really sort of depressing (stupid arithmetic mistake that I realised immediately post-section, too.).

me too... me too....

Sorry, what I meant was that you could miss 3 and get a 720. But even then, that curve would still be harsh, but missing 2 and getting a 720 would be devastation.

My brother took the SAT on Oct. 2006 and got 4 wrong in the math. Surprisingly, he recieved a 730.

Yeah, the curve does help you on some tests. This is mainly because that test was harder than most test. Tests were you miss one and get 770 are usually easier and therefore more people get the perfects.

I got 3 wrong, left 0 blank, and got the 720. Thanks cb

Whoa, dudes, you are majorly uptight about this! The SAT is one criterion that affects your chances. Once you're above 700, you more or less are in the "seriously considered" pile at most top schools. So chill out!

(I know, easy for me to say who already has 2 degrees from an Ivy, but I'm trying to be helpful...)

By the way, I don't know what y'all are complaining about anyway. Since the recentering, it is much easier to get above 700 on all sections. You should have taken the test pre 1995, when missing one question might dock you 50 points at the high end, and when only 16 people in the ENTIRE USA got a perfect score the year I took it.

I missed 2, omitted 1, and got a 760..

Well I missed 4 and got a 710 - humbug!
