Sick today, interview tomorrow!

I have a major cough going, and my first interview tomorrow! And to top it off, it's my Harvard interview!

Would the interview mind my cough-punctured speech? Should I offer some disclaimer before the interview that I might have to stop for a while if a coughing fit hits? It's really nothing but a cold, but I'm still worried...what should I do?

It would be fine to say after the introductions that you have a cold, that it isn't serious, but that you have a pretty bad cough at times. Try some cough drops or something. Good luck.

I was drunk yesterday:P
imagine how I feel today doing the interview:):):):)

Why do people tell other people about being drunk? Do I get on here and tell people I threw up on an old lady on the subway, or that I kicked a dog thru a hedge, or that I was arrested for exposing myself. Uh, not that any of that actually happened.

I suggest calling the interviewer today, explaining that you are sick, and seeing if you can meet a few days later than tomorrow. I can't think of any reason to go to an interview sick unless that is the absolutely only time that you can get. The interviewer isn't going to want to be around a sick person. You also won't be able to be at your best during the interview.

Being sick at an interview puts you and the interviewer at a disadvantage. Postpone it if you can.

If I got a cold from someone I was interviewing, I would probably write the college an awful letter about them........

If you aren't feeling well definitely call and try to reschedule. It will most likely work out in both parties favor.

it might be awkward--depends on how sick you are.

i kept losing my voice during my georgetown interview. i had to clear my throat like 1000 times--not fun.

from that experience, i suggest you try and reschedule. if it's really not possible, just go and make the best of it and explain you're sick.

and don't shake hands.

good luck--hope you feel better soon! :)

Thanks for everyone's advice.

The problem is, I feel bad postponing an interview the day of it. And my cough only forces me to pause and cough once in a while while talking, and does not affect me in any other way. I don't even have a fever or any other symptoms of anything. But these coughs generally take a while for me to get over, and a few days may not really help me be better.

So if I almost certainly want to have my interview today (in the early evening), should I just give warning ahead of time and not shake hands? This timing is so terrible...

Well, I just called my interviewer, who was fairly eager to change the interview date to next week, though I insisted my cough was minor. :p

What if I don't feel better by next week? I'd hate to postpone again! Here comes more worry... :(

If you want to worry about stuff that you have no control over, then worry about global warning, or meteors hitting the Earth, or Paris Hilton being in another movie.

:p

Thank you guys! I'm feeling (mentally) better already! :D

hope u get better in time 4 next week ^_^
and good luck

Sometimes a cough is from a "scratch" in the throat and not a cold anymore, "think hiccups", so drink tea and don't talk this week to give your throat a rest from all the coughing, it will really help a lot - I get these coughing fits and I am not sick, but it feels like there is something in my throat, like if you got rid of the dust in your eyem you eye still feels like it is there

and get some throat drop things to sooth the throat

drink tons of water as well and rest your voice and throat

you will be fine
