I meant to say that I expect to have my comp sci project published, not submitted. Its not like its incredible-its just that the lab at which I work at publishes a ton of papers

oh my gosh, I sent my thing in and I realized that I forgot the put the reference in the CD-rom and write down my high school in my supplement form!! Am I disqualified?

You could try emailing them.

That’s what I am going to do and then call them tomorrow. Should I mail the CD and a letter explaining my situation using same day delivery?

I’m not sure, that could be a waste, but who knows. Perhaps you could call them as well, and maybe by tomorrow before 5pm you’ll receive a response which will give you time to mail it if you need to. I’d have everything prepared though.

but the rules said everything has to be in by 5pm tomorrow. if I wait before I mail it then it’ll be too late.
I really don’t want to be disqualified for something like this.

For it to arrive by 12pm, it must be sent by 5pm the previous day (at least for USPS). Check the deadlines I guess, and if you are really feeling bad you should send it. I don’t think they’ll disqualify you if you don’t have a digital copy, though, but you should contact them ASAP.

On the website, it said: “Research Reports that do not adhere to these guidelines may be disqualified from the Competition.”
I don’t know how lenient they are on the “may be” but I really am hoping that it would not be a big deal. Have they disqualified people in the past for something like this?

I looked on the UPS website and it said:
"UPS Express Critical® provides a broad range of urgent and same-day delivery options for lightweight to heavyweight shipments around the world. "
so I think I can send it on the same day. The problem is just whether they would take it or not.

Hey guys. So on the supp. form I forgot to mention that a postdoc had helped me with citations and illustrations, but I mentioned it in the roles section of the mat. and methods. Should i call up siemens and ask them if that’s fine?

^^I’m sure they’d take same day delivery. They’ve no reason not to and it’s not against their rules

i just realized that there is one tiny mention of a research organization (a neighboring Univ.) if i call them and ask if I can fax a corrected page or mail a proper package (with only that info omitted) would it be fine?

So the deadline has passed. Did everybody get everything in on time? Now we just have to wait 3 weeks to find out how we did… ugh

Ugh. Good news though, siemens said one name wouldnt disqualify me lol

Did anyone use a project that they did through a summer research camp?

Not sure if anyone has asked this, since many research projects were done with professors, are the papers publishable in professional journals, or they are not up to that level?

^yes (10 char). Look up past winners’ paper. They’re published.

Hm…do you think accidentally not citing a cancer fact (# of deaths each year) source would have any major effect on the project?

^I doubt they’d disqualify it because of that. I mentioned a research facility but Siemens rep said it wouldn’t disqualify me…I mean other than disqualification, non-adherence to rules wouldn’t affect your project at all…although your case may be different as they may count it as plagiarism. If I were you I’d call them and ask.

PS. If it’s a fact that most people know, there’s no need to cite.

I think its a pretty insignificant part of the project to be disqualified on. If it were, it’d be outrageous. I’ll check to make sure.

:( 3 weeks is such a long wait!! I just wish October would breeze through already!!!
