Siemens and Intel

Wow, I decided to compete in these competitions over the summer with some friends and the past projects look stunning (and confusing)

How do I even start? We were thinking on the lines of an invention that would be useful in our modern day society (something to do with the environment). Is this a good idea. None of us are really adept at high level Math, Enviro, Chem, and Bio. I have taken AP Chem, that's about it. If we did an invention, it does not have to be very sophisticated in regards to the sciences, right?

Thanks for the help

Hey Walton I'm in the same shoes as you. I am not that good at science, and am planning to do this Intel thing next year. Prob will suck. Oh well. I hate my brain. I wish I was a genius.

Strongly suggest you try to find a mentor at a local university and join their lab....or ask them to help give you direction in the project you hope to work on.

Your grades, scores and a series of essays is very important to be a semi finalist and especially a finalist for Intel/STS...along with your project. For Siemens, project is most important.

Intel/STS must be submitted by an individual - no teams.

2boysima thanks for all that info..I am going to do it individually anyways. I might ask some local professors..there are about 6 colleges in my town lol. My little southern california town is famous for that..also, I have question: If my grades, scores, essays are superb, yet my project is mediocre, would I have a chance? Also, if I get in and do the summer thing before my senior year, would it look extremely good on college apps? Considering the fact that I got in, even if I didn't get anything and my project sucked ?
