^lol, same here. I have absolutely no idea, but it’s quite possible that finalists do get calls early since it also said something like that on a previous post.

hey, i’m not asian. not that it wouldn’t be kinda cool. anyways, my fate is handed down at high noon! ~24 hours away…

I was never expecting to be a finalist… being a semi would be amazing! I hope we get iPods!

they announce results at noon? pacific time?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh im soooo scaredddd

hopefully 12:01 am? haha i’m nervous too

So no one has received a phone call 0.o.?
12:01 am? I really doubt it. Sure, they said “by 2pm” … so probably no more than an hour before 2 ET or something.

its 2 P.M isnt it?

Hope for Ipod Touches!!!

im almost positive they dont call for finalists. i’ve known three regional finalists so far and none of them have gotten calls…
or maybe this is just me trying to stay positive since i didnt get a call =(

anyways. im super nervoussss. i spent a lot of time on my project and paper… hope i get at least semifinalist

I like how Intel SF get 1k but Siemens don’t.
(I don’t really like that)

siemens sf do get special package… definitely does not beat 1k… but oh well.

We got a call Tuesday but it wasn’t an acceptance/rejection notice… they just wanted to know some logistics.

Seems like in the previous years, results have been posted earlier than 2 pm EST!

it comes out 2pm pacific time?

I have no idea how good my proj. is compared to others…you guys wanna share your projects? like, link to online paper? arxiv.org or if you did not submit to arxiv, maybe describe ur proj?

mine was a math project on knot theory, finding a new invariant, and describing that new invariant. no practical applications.

Mine was a paper in crocodilian phylogeny, using mitochondrial DNA fragments to construct a phylogeny of the entire family Alligatoridae included almost all species and subspecies. I identified divergent clades within species, helped to resolve existing problems in the field, and highlighted some groups worthy of conservation concern, but nobody cares because it’s all about caimans anyway.

To answer a couple of questions/comments on this old thead…

1) A Siemens Regional Finalist is one of the top 30 individual projects in the country. Ditto the group projects. Not exactly chopped liver, folks.

2) Siemens individual projects are seniors only. Group projects can be done by grades 9-12, and group participants can compete more than once (unless you get to the National Finals, IIRC).

3) Intel STS is also seniors only. Evaluation includes your transcript, SAT scores and essays, in addition to research and mentor rec.

4) Intel ISEF is open to 9-12.

5) Two years ago the Siemens list was up about 12:30 pm Eastern. They do not call in advance. They do call later to confirm info and to let you know they’re sending you a big packet of materials to complete. Intel STS calls finalists the night before the official announcement is made (though sometimes someone from Intel comes to make a surprise presentation at school).

6) If you make Siemens Regional Finalist, you have a LOT to do in the next 2-3 weeks. You’ll need to prepare materials for a backboard and develop a 11-12 minute Power Point presentation of your project. PRACTICE your presentation, in front of students, teachers and your mentor (and his/her colleagues). Get people to ask you questions. Be able to give a 30-second spiel about what your project involves and what, if any applicability it has to the real world. Hope your EA apps are done!!!

7) Congrats to all, whatever happens.

Feel free to PM me with questions. BTDT!

^ Great post, CountingDown. Appreciated.

it’s 2pm… where are the results?

patience is not my strong point ;-)

The results have been up for 2 hours or so now!
