Siena/ Albany Medical College

Ok, so I applied/ interviewed for the Siena AMC Medical program. However, I was a bit concerned with the fact that Siena College itself is not really academically matching with the other AMC schools (Union and RPI). Unfortunately, I didn't hear about Union and RPI until after their deadlines, so to my deep regret, I was not able to apply.

So I was wondering if anyone has knowledge on the pros and cons of the 3 AMCs and also if the fact that I was interviewed for Siena meant I would have had a chance with union or RPI?

Thanks!

Yes, I heard about sienna not being up to the same academic standard as union/rpi, actually one person during my interviews mentioned something about it. but I feel like sienna will probably prepare you well for albany if they have that affiliation.
Pro of union: you get your masters along with bac and md in 8 years
RPI: 7 year program, great for research opportunities, MD comes with distinction in research
Sienna: more chances for networking while doing community service, also will be well rounded and have traveled to other countries by the time med school comes around

I don’t know any more about the 3 AMC programs than anyone else…BUT I think that the important thing to keep in mind is that even if Siena doesn’t academically match with the other two schools…it’s really what you put in and get out of the education you receive. And also, it really depends on what you’re interested in. Personally, I love the Siena program because I’m more of a humanities person. I got interviewed in January and I’m excited to hear back from them. I really think that the program is going to be worth it. The summer of service must really be an eye opener…

Siena has been associated with AMC for over 25 years. The courses are very Rigorous. They take the Chemical Society finals for Organic Chemistry. A Doctor in the Winter Siena quarterly magazine just out says Siena was more challenging than his medical school ( not AMC). Yes , engineering at Ren would be harder especially since it is 7 years , but do not lull yourself into a false sense of security.

I think everyone has to take the ACS for gen chem 1,2 and orgo 1,2, regardless of the school. I did dual enrollment and had to take it for gen chem.

Lol that was just what I was looking for. Also, I guess the benefits of a near guaranteed spot in med school trumps the school’s name recognition. Thanks!
