Sig Ep...

I'm a current member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and I'm looking to transfer to UNC. I was just wondering what the perception of sig ep is at the school, and how are their sorority relations?

Thanks in advance

Sig Ep has a very strong reputation nationally, but not at UNC- it's a bottom tier fraternity and not even with nice guys! They did have a good pledge class this past year with really nice guys, but some of their upperclassmen are kinda jerks/losers. I hung out a bit at Sig Ep this past semester since a few of my friends were dating the guys and personally cannot stand some of the Sig Ep brothers since they were such jerks. On a more positive note, the entire fraternity isn't made up of jerks- there are plenty of nice guys to balance it out.

Their sorority relations are pretty strained- very few to almost no mixers, and if they did have mixers they were with a "bottom" sorority. Due to a more pretentious Greek attitude, the higher-tier sororities would not be caught dead mixing with Sig Ep. Needless to say, they are not held in high esteem among Greek circles.

I am, however, extremely biased because I pretty much hate this frat due to some not-so-pleasant run ins with some of the brothers.

(Just my 2 cents, please please don't hurt me!)

just curious---what are the higher sororities?

i made a post about sig ep on the "Frats" thread if you're interested.

I mean I don't know the majority of the current brothers there by any means, but the ones I do I don't care to know. I don't think too highly of the frat. But I doubt that you are going to find all that much helpful info about them here. If you live mildly close by then give them a call, tell them you are looking at transferring. I'm sure they'll show you around and all. If they're cool then go with it. But don't really take into account what we think. You're the one that will be living in a house with them.

Even though this thread is old I feel the need to clarify some information. I am an alum and have handled house maintenance since 98’. The house is now Balanced Man and has moved to the top 5-10 in GPA from near the bottom. We have received recognition for UNC and Nationals for various things the last few years.

We did a “house cleaning” a few years ago to determine which guys wanted to be a Sig Ep versus wanting to be in a “frat” to party. We have been doing large upgrades to our house. We just completed a Capital Campaign which will allow us to retire out debt in the next 12 months or so.

The only reason I posted this is NC Delta Sigma Phi Epsilon is not what the posts here indicate.
