Not a weird problem! LOL! I have the /exact/ same issue as you. Luckily I went to camp for years as a kid, so I've had plenty of time to perfect a strategy.

Unfortunately, /every/ college is going to have public restrooms - and no, they aren't that gross at all. I'd just put toilet paper on the seat or something, haha. Anyways, my issue is that I hate using the restroom with other people around. You can always just use it late at night/early in the morning. You'll have plenty of time to discover the "off" hours, anyways. Also, there's usually a bathroom around that's mostly abandoned...such as in an academic building during classes or something.

So, don't worry about it I say...The good news (or bad news?) is that it won't get into the way of going to the school you want, because they're all the same in this regard :P.

At most schools you can get a suite with a bathroom, so you'll only be sharing your bathroom with a few other people, but I think spending 1,000 dollars extra or whatever it is for this is kinda silly.

A lot of schools have a mixture of suite-syle clusters with 4-8 people sharing 1 bathroom, as well as the standard 1 bathrom for half a hall. In that case it'd be 20-30 people sharing a large bathroom with at least 5 toilets, sinks, and showers, probably more depending on how many are sharing. Unfortunately your dislike of the thought of sharing a bathroom will NOT score you your own bathroom as a freshman, if at all during the years you live on campus. Especially, if you go to a more elite school with more demand for enrollment. I doubt it will get in the way of the school of your dreams; if you want to go there badly enough, you won't care that you'll be sharing a bathroom or that could could be one of 3 people squished into a standard double room. You'll just have to roll with it.

I hold my bladder very well in school because I usually do not have to go. But college dorms are different since I'll be living and showering and whatnot there.

i haven't dormed nor will i be dorming but i have done sleepovers at colleges and i can tell you that at first the thought seems a bit scary but you get used to it. basically everyone is in the same situation, so long as you don't walk around naked no one will see you naked. i didn't find the bathrooms disgusting. definitely don't let it get in your way.

Nope, I don't know of any LACs, big or small, where you have a private bathroom as a freshman. But I think the odds of getting one in a suite as an upperclassman are a bit better. I don't know this for a fact, it's only a thought.

What's with the sudden surge of bathroom-phobics?

You can always try to figure out the cleaning people's schedule...I happened to get up for a lot of my classes right when the cleaning lady was getting finished so I got to use the newly cleaned showers (not that they were ever 'dirty' to begin with). Everyone uses the bathroom and everyone wants it to be clean whenever they use it, so it's not like it's going to be trashed every day or anything.

Honestly the dirtiest college bathroom I ever saw was the bathroom in a suite with 4 girls...didn't look like it'd been cleaned since they got there.

That not werid thats me...I hate going even in my own house after we have guest. I try my hardest not to go to public washroom. I bet that you will meet others who have the same problem.

^^ a lot of times in the suite style bathrooms they are only cleaned by the school during breaks - think about it, would you really want random people wandering into/monopolizing your bathroom on a daily basis? this is where responsibility comes into play...and you've gotta suck it up and do it yourself....or just be waaaay nasty.

Well yeah, that was kind of the point...everyone likes to recommend getting a suite because only 4-6 people use the bathroom instead of 20-30, but those 4-6 people all think one of other 4-6 people should be responsible for cleaning the bathroom (or kitchen or wherever) so it doesn't actually get done and hence ends up being messier in the end.

As far as bathroom phobia goes...turns out even public toilets arent all that dirty. even the ones at theme parks and such. If you are really concerned then buy yourself some lysol wipes and when you go to the bathroom, just wipe down the toilet seat before hand. This could get expensive after a while, but if it will make you feel better, then do it. Just dont go into the bathroom barefooted and you will be fine
